It's official - there is not a bad seat anywhere at Austin's Circuit of the Americas. What a thrill it was this Sunday to watch Britain's Lewis Hamilton pass his Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg on loop 49 of 56 loops to win the Formula 1 U.S. Grand Prix. Watching Lewis Hamilton jump around, do leaps and nearly crowd surf as he celebrated his third Grand Prix win on the award stage was really also worth seeing.
It was also fascinating to be able to spot our international friends who were dressed very nicely and obviously not prepared for our crazy Texas weather. We loved hearing their accents and different languages! After the race everyone hiked across the property to get to the stage where Elton John would wow us singing all his greats, his beautiful classical pop piano solos and some incredible songs we had never heard.
It was a muddy adventure getting to the field where I heard one of our own young guys saying to the crowd, as we were expected to slosh our way through a muddy swamp of a ditch, "Where are your boots, people? This is Texas!" But it was worth it. Elton John's band was also amazingly impressive. Most bandmates have been with him decades, and his drummer has been with him from the very beginning in 1969!
The only advice I can give my fellow citizens wanting to visit a Formula 1 race is check online to make sure they have come up with a better shuttle system. We stood in the longest line of our lives. It took over two hours after the concert to get on a shuttle to get back to downtown. If they don't have a better system in place by then, I can only say we were very jealous of the people who had called Über and other services like that to transport them!! But all in all, it was great fun!
Visiting Austin's Circuit of the Americas is just one of the many perks of moving to Central Texas. The Formula 1 U.S. Grand Prix is one of many excited events hosted at Circuit of the Americas each year along with huge concerts and other great events.
