If you have packed and moved a home you know that it can be quite a chore to get everything packed and moved to your next place. Here are a few tips that will make the packing process quicker and easier.
1. When packing dishes, buy a package of foam plates. You can put one between each plate to help protect your dinnerware.
2. For glasses, bowls and other breakables, use dishtowels to wrap them up. It saves time because you are packing 2 things at once.
3. To pack your drinking glasses, use clean socks to put the glasses in, the socks will help to protect the glass from getting broken.
4. When packing the closet, use drawstring garbage bags to put over several garments at once leaving the hooks of the hangers exposed. Tie the drawstrings around the hangers to keep them all together.
5. When labeling your boxes, label them on the sides with the contents of the box and the room that box will go. Some people will use colored dots for each room and put a floor plan on each room’s door with the corresponding colored dot on the floor plan to help the movers know where each box goes.
6. You can also label the box with a number instead of contents and keep a separate list of what is in each box. For example “Kitchen 4” would be written on the side of the box, then on the notepad you can list the contents of box 4. Having a list will also help with insurance purposes, and what better time to make an inventory list than when you are packing everything up?
7. Use Press & Seal to put on the tops of drawers, pull the drawers out of dressers and move them separately. It saves time and keeps everything where you need it.
8. Use Press & Seal to wrap any jewelry displays you have as well.
9. When taking items off the walls or dismantling furniture, use clear packing tape to attach the hardware to its piece of furniture or artwork.
10. Utilize your suitcases and baskets to pack items instead of boxes. It reduces space.
11. Take a picture of the back of your electronics so you know how you had it set up before.
12. Remove the tops of toiletry items and cover with saran wrap before putting the top back on. This prevents things from spilling out.
