Rock’N River Family Aquatic Center
3300 E Palm Valley Blvd, Round Rock
This 40,481 square foot park is full of great outdoor entertaining that will help you stay cool in the blazing July sun. It has a lazy river, crazy slides and a water playground that makes this a great and affordable place for everyone in the family. Tunnel showers, water cannons, tipping buckets, floor geysers and much more will make sure you stay cool.
Hawaiian Falls
18500 N SH 130, Pflugerville
Whether you come here to enjoy water slides and the various aquatic attractions or want to zipline around in the adventure side of the park, Hawaiian Falls is full of fun ways to spend a day outside. Cabanas are available for rental, providing a guaranteed shaded area to relax during the hottest part of the day. The park is also hosting weekly Splash Camps for kids over 6 years old if you’re still looking for something fun for your kids to do outside the house this summer.
Schlitterbahn
400 N Liberty Avenue, New Braunfels
If you’re willing to drive a little further down the 130 Toll, Schlitterbahn has been a summer destination for many families. This vast water park has everything from tube rides, slides, playgrounds, a lazy river and tons of fun attractions for kids of all ages. You’ll have a hard time dragging the younger kids away from the pirate ship at Kinderhaven or from fighting the dragon at Sea Creature Cove at the end of the day, but everyone will leave exhausted and happy for the drive home.
Round Rock Public Library
216 E Main Street, Round Rock
If you’re looking for more subdued entertainment in an air conditioned atmosphere, the Round Rock Public Library is a great place to spend a few hours, especially with small children. They host regular movie times and have special programing for all ages, including story time for babies and toddlers, improv classes for kids and teenagers, and art clubs each week. Afterwards, grab a bite at some of the great eateries in downtown Round Rock or cool off by playing in the fountains in the downtown plaza.
Mt. Playmore
13609 North I-35, Austin
Seem like the kids have a little more energy than usual? Take them to Mt. Playmore, where they can run, jump, climb and slide through the largest indoor playground in Central Texas. With 3,000 square feet of playscape, your kids will get all their excess energy out and then some in this colorful and complex climber’s paradise.
Play for All Abilities Park
151 North AW Grimes, Round Rock
This spacious outdoor playground is a great way to spend the morning before the weather gets too hot. With 51,000 square feet of outdoor fun, your kids will be able to spend hours running, jumping and playing through the several “pods”. The park is built for kids of all ability levels, allowing kids to develop new skills while having fun.
Austin Aquarium

The Austin Aquarium provides an immersive and interactive experience with sea creatures big and small. The aquarium provides opportunities to feed sharks, stingrays and tropical animals, providing a hand’s on learning environment to get up close with exotic ocean species. The Octopus Encounter is especially popular, giving guests the opportunity to meet and feed the Giant Pacific Octopus that lives there.
The Thinkery
1830 Simond Avenue, Austin
Previously the Austin Children’s Museum, The Thinkery is a popular place to learn about science, technology and engineering through multiple exhibits. Interactive exhibits provide hand’s on experiences for children of all ages that are both entertaining and informative. It’s a great place for parents and kids to play side-by-side while they learn more about science and technology.
The Austin Zoo
10808 Rawhide Trail, Austin
Many people don’t realize Austin has its own zoo located on the southwest edge of town, right off of Highway 290. While it’s a bit of a drive from Round Rock, the Austin Zoo is a great place for families to get up close with exotic land animals and learn about more than 100 different species. Train rides through the park provide a relaxing scenic view of the Hill Country as well as a chance to see emus, alpacas and longhorns.
Inner Space Caverns
4200 S I-35, Georgetown
For a truly cool experience, head up to Georgetown to take a tour of Inner Space Caverns, one of the best preserved caves in Texas. Learn about geology and prehistoric history while touring the permanently 72 degree caverns. A playground and mining area provide extra entertainment before or after touring the caves.
