University Hills is a community in the transition process. Its residents are in for the long haul, knowing that the neighborhood will guide other communities going through the same progression when complete. Much like Eliza Doolittle’s transformation in My Fair Lady, University Hills is getting a make-over. Still, the things that genuinely make this retro gem unique are not being covered up or denied their freedom to shine. Instead, this fresh coat of paint seeks to bring out the best in what already exists and add to it rather than take away. Having an urban-suburban mixed feel, with an ample greenbelt and park areas for lovers of the outdoors, University Hills is quiet when it needs to be and delightfully alive at just the right moments.
The longest stretch of growth in the University Hills community, before today, took place between 1961 and 1969, making a predominance of its homes an eclectic mix of the architectural styles popular at the time. Trees are mature and healthy, and there are plenty of green spaces. Square footage ranges from 1,500 to 2,300, with the average home having two to four bedrooms and two to three bathrooms.
Ah, Austin, Texas- where weird is celebrated, and uniqueness is a prerequisite. There is a reason people are flocking to Austin in droves. Every neighborhood and its residents will tell you their community is the most Austin. No matter what kind of human you are, you will find a place to call home in Austin. So feel alright, alright, alright at Top Notch Hamburgers while you feast on that Number #3 Top Pick. Have some fun at Emerald Tavern Games & Café during family game night. Squeeze into your favorite booth at Conan’s Pizza. Thank the universe for locally sourced ingredients at Jack Allen’s Kitchen, or take a trip to the original Kerbey Lane Café. Take a trip to Austin’s prized Zilker Park. Ride the train, take a swim in Barton Spring’s Pool, or take in a night of outdoor theatre on the Zilker Hillside. Join your friends for a night on 6th Street, or visit one of the numerous museums. The possibilities are endless in the heart of Texas.
All are welcome- First established in 1881, equity, diversity, and collective responsibility are the driving forces behind Austin Independent School District. Over 74,000 students make up one hundred and twenty-five separate school systems, partnering with local Universities, non-profits, and innovative businesses to create an award-winning curriculum that is reinventing modern urban public education. University Hills residents can confidently trust their children’s education to nearby schools, including Winn Elementary, Harris Elementary, Andrews Elementary, Reagan Middle School, and LBJ High School.
